BYD (Build Your Dreams) India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the largest electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD Group, today announced its entry into the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business in India. This makes BYD the only company to provide MHE products with lithium-iron phosphate battery in the country.

The MHE products from BYD adopt the company’s proprietary lithium-iron phosphate battery technology, which unlike traditional lead-acid battery powered equipment, feature maintenance-free ‘One Battery for Life-time Operation.’ The battery can fulfil a life-long service, thereby reducing the cost of replacement or purchase, the company noted. BYD offers a wide range of MHE products into the Indian market, including counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, electric stackers, tow trucks and hand pallet trucks. The rating of these equipment ranges from 1.6-25 tonnes. BYD said its MHE products integrate components from suppliers such as, KDS for motors, Zapi/Curtis for controller and ZF for the drive axle.

Ulhas Makeshwar, Head, BYD India MHE business, said the company’s products have received sound feedback from the market, and is positive on acquiring more market share in a short term. The major focus is on 3PL (Third Party Logistics), warehousing and logistics companies, he added. “The Indian warehousing and logistics sector is expected to attract nearly $ 10 billion investment over the next 4-5 years, and the modernisation, technological advancement and process optimisation of the warehousing sector is undoubtedly the key driving force behind the growth of logistics sector,” added Makeshwar.

The company’s lithium-iron phosphate technology will become the next market favourite in the near future with its exceptional performance, noted Ketsu Zhang, Executive Director, BYD India. He said the market is looking very promising, and BYD aims to become India’s largest premium electric warehousing and logistics equipment supplier within three years.
