To what extent may a driver react according to their intentions during autonomous emergency braking? Is it possible to draw reliable conclusions from the driver’s behaviour on the intention? Studies of Robert Bosch GmbH on driver behaviour during different autonomous emergency brake interventions, which vary with respect to the elicited driver intent – brake versus overrule the emergency brake – demonstrate that the driver intent strongly affects driver behaviour during autonomous emergency braking. Combining multiple indicators of driver behaviour, the driver intent may be detected at a very early stage.
