Battery Cell Balancing With Integrated Cell Monitoring

The growing number of applications for battery systems requires, among others, more safety measures, precision in detecting the current state of the cells and longevity. The growing number of requirements results in increasing complexity of the battery system. At the Ruhr University Bochum, a topology has now been developed that allows cell balancing and monitoring to occur simultaneously and therefore not only reduce the complexity but also to achieve better utilisation of the battery system with simultaneous cell loading through the active cell balancing concept.
