The main challenge of developing battery electric powertrains for the smart vehicle of the future is to mediate between the competing goals of high efficiency, low costs and at the same time high comfort

In order to resolve this conflict of goals, at TU Darmstadt, innovative hybrid electric powertrain systems called “Two-drive Transmission” (TDT) are developed. Based on the “Two-drive Transmission with Range Extender” (DE-REX) project results, the potential of the powertrain concept was successfully demonstrated.
