Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) today unveiled its first connected SUV ‘Venue’ for the Indian market. The car unveil coincides with its global preview that will happen later today at the 2019 New York International Motor Show. The new Hyundai Venue gets 33 new connected features out of which 10 have been specifically designed looking at the unique Indian conditions.
According to the Korean car manufacturer, the new Venue has been designed for Indian youth seeking futuristic technology, along with safety and comfort. The Venue spans 3,995 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and is 1,590 mm high designed on a 2,550mm wheelbase. Engineers at Hyundai have loaded the new Venue with company’s signature design language with front bold mesh pattern grille. The Venue gets a strong body structure with 69 % advanced high strength steel along with high strength steel for dynamic and static stiffness and improved structural rigidity. The vehicle also showcases a solid and full wheel volume arch and strong character line.
The new Hyundai Venue will be available in both petrol and diesel guise – the new Kappa 1.0 litre turbocharged-GDI along with the 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre diesel mill. Hyundai has also introduced seven-speed dual clutch transmission and has packed the car with advanced DCT technology, along with its six-speed and five-speed transmissions. The 1.0 l T_GDI engine will deliver 120 Ps power and 17.5kgm torque and will be mated to seven-speed DCT and MT transmission. The 1.2 l petrol engine will deliver 83 Ps power at 11.7 kgm torque and will be mated to five-speed manual transmission. The 1.4 l diesel powerhouse of Hyundai Venue will deliver 90 Ps power at 22.4 kgm torque and will be coupled to a six-speed transmission.
The Kappa 1.0 l T-GDI engine has been developed by Hyundai R&D with a compact layout that integrates the exhaust manifold to cylinder head, thus improving fuel economy at higher RPM ranges. The company claims that the seven-speed dual clutch transmission has least torque.
Advanced connectivity and Multimedia
The Venue will be offered with an advanced BlueLink technology that Hyundai launched in 2012 and is currently in its third generation. The system will get in-built Vodafone Idea esim which the company claims is tamper-proof. Out of the 33 total tech features, the BlueLink gets 10 India specific features for holistic connectivity and various other vehicle management relationship services. Hyundai is currently training a team of 615 BlueLink field expert wizards, who in turn, will train 10,000 sales consultants. Hyundai stresses that 9,000 dealerships-based manpower will also be trained for customer-related queries for BlueLink technology. The BlueLink will be available as complementary for first three years, following which customers would be required to pay for data-based services.
Hyundai has showcased a key focus on safety, security, remote access, vehicle relationship management, location-based services and alert services with the new Venue compact SUV. To add more in this regard, the Korean carmaker has gone and included a panic button on the key module for improved safety in case of distress. All in all, the new Venue is expected to bring a host of 33 features, out of which 10 will be specific to India. Owners of the Venue will also be able to track their vehicle in case of a theft and immobilise it for recovery.
Adding a touch of convenience, the Hyundai Venue will be offered with features such as remote engine start/stop, climate control, door lock/unlock, horn honk & light and vehicle status. The Hyundai Venue will also get an inbuilt and tamper-proof device that is powered by a Vodafone eSIM and Cloud-based voice recognition platform from Global AI (Artificial Intelligence) Company. The device will also be able to offer real time traffic navigation and live local search in collaboration with a global map company. Further, the device is also said to be able to catch local English accent and has been developed for customers in different regions of India.
