Ashok Leyland, SUN Mobility Join Hands For Electric Mobility Solutions


Ashok Leyland today announced the formation of a global strategic alliance with SUN Mobility to leverage India’s innovation and engineering potential in developing world class electric mobility solutions. SUN Mobility plans to deploy a unique open-architecture ecosystem built around their proprietary smart batteries and a network of quick interchange battery stations. These stations, predominantly powered by renewable energy, will refuel electric vehicles at cost lower than and speed faster than conventional fuel stations.

Ashok Leyland has been working in the field of electric buses, hybrid buses, in both CNG as well as diesel, including those that do not require a plug-in. SUN Mobility is promoted by Chetan Maini, founder of Reva and Uday Khemka, Vice Chairman of SUN Group. It has been a recent player in the field of universal energy infrastructure and services to accelerate the mass usage of electric vehicles across the country.

Commenting on the alliance, Chetan Maini, Vice Chairman of SUN Mobility, said, “With this partnership, SUN Mobility hopes to create a strategic alliance in the area of mass electric mobility by deploying market-leading integrated ecosystem comprising Ashok Leyland’s state-of-the art electric vehicles and our proprietary smart batteries along with a network of quick interchange battery stations. This partnership will help the nation move masses via an efficient, pollution-free and cost-competitive solution for electric mobility.”

Speaking on the occasion, Vinod K Dasari, CEO & Managing Director of Ashok Leyland said, “We were the first and only manufacturer to achieve BS3 emission compliance using a mechanical fuel pump. We were also the first in India to develop a SCR based BS4 solution in 2010. In 2017, we were the world’s first and only company to develop an EGR based BS4 solution, called iEGR. This latest innovation is performing extremely well and we are expanding our capacity to meet customer demand on our iEGR vehicle solution.
