Audi India launched the second-generation RS 5 Coupé in India today, at a price of Rs 1.11 crore, ex-showroom. The company said that with the new Audi RS 5 Coupé, Audi Sport is presenting its first model to feature the new RS design philosophy in India.
The Audi RS 5 Coupé’s is powered by a 2.9 l, V6, bi-turbo TFSI petrol engine producing about 450 hp of power, and 600 Nm of peak torque. The car is said to have a top speed of 250 km/h. The new Audi RS 5 Coupé is said to offer 17 % less fuel consumption when compared to its predecessor due to a number of factors. The engine is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission that is said to have been specially tuned for sporty, dynamic driving. The car is also equipped with electronic stabilisation control with three modes and wheel-selective torque control.
The car features standard quattro permanent all-wheel drive with self-locking differential that distributes power to all four wheels. Both the turbochargers of the engine are centrally-positioned inside the V of the engine, and each of them supplies a single cylinder bank. The B-cycle combustion process with central direct injection represents a new level of efficiency within the RS family, the company explained.
The new Audi RS 5 Coupé is said to have a design inspired by the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO car, featuring additional air vents at the front and rear. It comes with a sportier single frame grill that is wider and flatter, Matrix LED headlights with dynamic rear indicators, 3D LED rear lights. The gross weight of the car has been reduced by 60 kg. The RS 5 features 19-inch aluminium forged wheels, panoramic sunroof, and optional matt aluminium and carbon exterior package.
The chassis of the Audi RS 5 Coupé is made up of five-link construction at the front and rear axles, along with RS sport suspension with sportier setup and more direct handling as standard. It also features standard dynamic steering and Audi Drive Select as standard. The car also gets the RS sports exhaust system standard on the car.
In terms of interiors, the RS 5 Coupé is equipped with sport front seats in alcantara leather upholstery, aluminium inlays, and three-spoke flat bottom steering wheel with multifunction plus.The front seats are electrically-adjustable including memory function for the driver’s seat with pneumatic lumbar support and massage function, three-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, and door trim with aluminium inlay and illuminated RS 5 logo.
The car comes with a new MMI control concept with intuitive free-text search and natural language voice control and Audi Virtual Cockpit with special RS screen. The Virtual Cockpit provides information on tyre pressure, torque and g-forces, as well as a shift light which prompts the driver to upshift. It also features Audi Smartphone interface for connecting Apple and Android smartphones, as well as a Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound, 19 loudspeakers and 755 watts of power. Driver assistance and safety systems include Park Assist with rear view camera and parking system plus, six airbags, ABS, EBD, EDL, ASR, ESC with torque vectoring
Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India, said the RS 5 Coupé was born on the track and built for the road, and is the gran turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The car’s V6 bi-turbo engine has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency, he added. Ansari also said the car combines the performance of a sports car and the comfort of a sedan.
