Autoliv Inc, global supplier of automotive safety systems, has completed acquisition of the automotive business of M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc (MACOM). Autoliv also announced that its zForce DRIVE gesture and touch-enabled steering wheel, which it co-developed with Neonode Inc, has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design award.
Autoliv has purchased MACOM's Automotive Solutions business for about $ 100 mn in cash. The transaction may also cost Autoliv up to additional $ 30 mn cash based on achievement of revenue-based earn-out targets of MACOM, through 2019. Additionally, MACOM has agreed to perform consulting services for Autoliv over a two-year period for up to $ 15 mn in fees.
MACOM is a leading supplier of high-performance analogue RF, microwave, millimeterwave and photonic semiconductor products that enable next-generation Internet and modern battlefield applications, which is certified with ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards. Autoliv expects to have MACOM's automotive business fully-integrated in the company’s facilities in Massachusetts, US, before the end of 2015.
Johan Löfvenholm, Group Vice President, Product and Process Development, Autoliv, said present and future consumers increasingly request both safety and excitement when looking at automotive content. The zForce drive cooperation is a perfect merger of both these aspects, he added. The zForce DRIVE concept will be presented at the 66th annual IAA 2015 Cars show in Frankfurt, in September.
