The BMW M5 Competition is powered by an eight-cylinder, M TwinPower Turbo petrol engine delivering 625 hp of power at 6,000 rpm, with a peak torque of 750 Nm from 1,800-5,860 rpm. The engine in mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. This technology is claimed to feature extremely short shifting timings and numerous shifting options from very athletic and dynamic to comfortable and fuel-efficient. Gears can also be shifted manually with the gear lever or via paddle shifter on the steering wheel, for a more immersive driving experience. The performance enables the new BMW M5 Competition to propel from 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.3 seconds.
The car is equipped with the M xDrive drivetrain system that combines hallmark M agility and precision provided by standard rear-wheel drive, with traction-enhancing benefits of an all-wheel drive. Other elements on the car include ‘Competition’ lettering and ‘M5’ badge on the boot lid, with laminated M5 Competition designation on the side skirts available as optional equipment.
The interior of the high-performance luxury sedan in focussed completely on the driver. It features M sport seats, illuminated M5 logo, and M seatbelts in black with an understated stripe design in BMW M colours. The M5 Competition comes with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which runs on the latest BMW Operating System 7.0, which includes 3D Navigation with a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. An ‘M Competition’ graphic appears in the instrument cluster when starting up, with another feature being the Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 loudspeakers and 600 Watts of output.
