Continental set to Make Premium Automotive Interior Surfaces in India by 2020

Continental has announced to manufacture premium automotive interior surfaces in India by 2020. The company has kick-started construction work for a new plant in Pune that will be spread across 12,000 sq. m. and has committed an investment of Rs 180 crores.

Continental will supply Acella Eco artificial leather to the local Indian market from the new plant that will have an initial capacity of five million sq. m. and see an initial workforce of 110. Continental is also planning to manufacture environmentally compatible Yorn and Yorn Light expanded foils in the new plant. The new plant in Pune will enable the company to improve both its reaction times and responsiveness in India, stated the company.

Dr. Dirk Leiß, Head - Business unit for surface materials at Continental, said the investment will enable the company to offer its Indian customers local solutions that are manufactured in the market for the market.
