COVID-19 Pandemic Bringing Automotive Industry To A Grinding Halt

The global pandemic caused by the deadly Corona Virus, which is claiming more patients by the day is also spreading rather increasingly in India. Although the total number of infected patients and cases of death is relatively low when compared to other affected countries, it is still seen to be growing at a rapid pace. Fiat India Suspends Production Due To COVID-19 Crisis

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) joint venture with Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL) will be stopping production temporarily in response to the COVID-19 crisis. With number of infected cases increasing in the state of Maharashtra, Fiat has decided to halt production for the safety of its employees. The temporarily suspension of production activities will be in effect till March 31, 2020, until further changes are declared by respective Governments. Fiat India had already put safety practices in effect before this suspension plan was put into effect. For employee safety, thermal screening was being carried out along with the addition of extra busses adding social distancing between workers. READ MORE

Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra Halt Operations Over Covid-19 Outbreak

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced shutting down all its operations including facilities at Gurugram and Manesar with immediate effect until further notice as a precautionary measure over the spread of COVID-19. The company stated that its R&D Centre at Rohtak will also remain closed. Meanwhile, Mahindra and Mahindra also announced suspension of manufacturing operations at its plants in Nagpur, Chakan (Pune) and Kandivali (Mumbai) with immediate effect to protect its employees from the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak. The company is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving Covid-19 pandemic and will continue to take swift and appropriate action on other plants in the state of Maharashtra and across the nation. MG Motor Announces Disinfect and Deliver Service for Customers

Keeping in mind the safety of MG car owners, the company has announced a Disinfect and Deliver initiative. The service ensures all MG vehicles will be completely sanitized before handing over to customers for test drives or deliveries. To aid this further, all test drive, booking and delivery services have been made converted to online platforms. All vehicles sent for test drives or deliveries will be swabbed with disinfectants for safety of employees and customers. At the dealerships as well, all possible preventive measures are being observed to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Porsche Report 11 % Increase In Sales Revenue In Financial Year 2019

Porsche AG reported an increase of 11 % in sales revenue to € 28.5 bn in the 2019 financial year, while operating result before special items increased by 3 % year-on-year to € 4.4 bn. The Cayenne and Macan models series experienced greatest demand, leading to handover of a cumulative 280,800 vehicles in 2019, which is an increase of 10 % when compared to the previous year. The strongest growth for the company has been in its home market of Germany and other parts of Europe. Its other large markets of China and US also reported increase in sales, defying the overall weakening economic situation being experienced in these markets. In terms of adding employment, the company said electric mobility has been a job creator leading to the creation of about 2,000 new jobs. Porsche said that by 2024 it will invest about € 10 bn in the hybridisation, electrification and digitalisation of its cars, and is consistently enhancing its offering in the area of electromobility.

Anritsu, MediaTek Collaborate For New 5G Mode Protocol Conformance Tests

Anritsu and MediaTek announce collaboration on verification of Protocol Conformance Tests for 5G New Radio Standalone mode devices. These tests have been verified with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 chipset on Anritsu’s 5G New Radio Mobile Device Test Platform ME7834NR. The conformance tests are defined by 3GPP TS 38.523 and have been validated on multiple sub-6 GHz Frequency Range 1 frequency bands. The ME7834NR Test Platform is registered with both the Global Certification Forum and PCS Type Certification Review Board as Test Platform 251 for 3GPP-based Protocol Conformance Tests (PCT) and Carrier Acceptance Tests (CAT) of mobile devices incorporating Multiple Radio Access Technologies (RAT). It supports 5G NR in both standalone and non-standalone modes as well as LTE, LTE-Advanced, LTE-A Pro, and W-CDMA.
