Audi will premier its AI:ME, a mobility concept for future megacities, at the Auto Shanghai 2019. The Audi AI:ME offers compact dimensions, spacious and futuristic interior and autonomous drive L4. Further, the concept will offer a range of high-tech features for communication, entertainment and relaxation.
The Audi AI:ME concept offers an exterior length of 4.30 m, the car is 1.90 m wide and will occupy the same space as a present day compact car. The wheelbase of the car measures 2.77 m and it has a height of 1.52 m. The wheelbase being offered rivals that of a vehicles at a higher segment, which has been made possible with the architecture of an electric drive vehicle. It has also catered to short overhangs and a large-space interior without a propeller shaft tunnel. The drive unit on the AI:ME has been positioned on the rear axle and offers 170 hp.
With an automated level four drive, the Audi AI:ME has been designed for city use and is capable of achieving the second-highest level on a standardised international scale for increasing automation. At a level four automation, the Audi AI:ME requires driver intervention on highways or specially equipped areas in inner cities. Unlike the Audi Alcon, which achieves a level five automation, the Audi AI:ME will come with traditional steering wheel and pedalry control elements.
The AI:ME will predominantly drive in a speed range of between 20 – 70 km/h and with a battery unit that has a storage capacity of 65 kWh, the vehicle will be able remain mobile for hours. Furthermore, Audi has built in brake energy regeneration on the AI:ME and boasts of low power usage even in congested conditions.
