Groupe Renault has inaugurated a new design centre in Shanghai, China, in pursuit of its strategy of international expansion of its Design Department. The company’s Design Department is already present in France, Romania, South Korea, Brazil and India. The new Renault Design Centre Shanghai will imagine and design future Groupe Renault models directly addressing the expectations of Chinese customers.
Renault’s design centre in Shanghai will cover all automotive design sectors, including exterior and interior design, colours and materials, user Experience (UX) design and User Interface (UI). The team of designers at the Renault studio in Shanghai will draw creativity from a city on the leading edge technologies in the development of connected, innovative and electric mobility solutions. This new venue for creation and the exploration of the latest trends will contribute to Groupe Renault’s expansion strategy in China, the company noted.
Designers at the Shanghai centre, like those at the group’s other design centres, will be able to participate in in-house styling competitions organised for all Groupe Renault projects. Groupe Renault noted that all the studies for future projects will benefit from a multicultural and creative approach thanks to the 32 nationalities present at the Design Department.
Laurens van den Acker, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Design, Groupe Renault, said the new design studio in Shanghai fully supports its strategy to win over new customers in China. Groupe Renault plans to hire some 20 local designers in the coming months, and these talents will help it to anticipate the expectations of Chinese customers, he added. Acker also said the Renault Design Centre Shanghai will play a major role in the design of future local products as well as contribute towards global Groupe Renault projects.
