Honda Cars has announced to close down its western England car factory in 2021. Located 115 kms west of London, the Swindon plant currently employs 3,500 people and will shut in two years, post completion of the current model's production life cycle.

According to Honda, no viable alternatives have been found out against the proposed shut down of the Honda plant that makes its popular Civic model. Honda has also affirmed that the closure is not driven by Brexit-related uncertainty on U.K economy and is a part of a global strategy to meet the challenges in the automotive industry.
