Hyundai Motor Group has adopted the BorgWarner’s exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology for their engines. The use of EGR technology from BorgWarner will help Hyundai reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions. This technology will also enhance fuel efficiency by up to 2.5 % and offers a cost-effective design.
BorgWarner will be providing its technology solutions locally in Korea for the first time. Hyundai will be applying the EGR technology to its Gamma II (1.6 l) engine, Nu Imp. (1.8 & 2.0 l) engines and Theta III (2.5 l) engine. BorgWarner is also supporting the Hyundai Motor Group by local production of EGR valves in China.
EGR systems are a potential solution to enhance fuel economy, moreover being cost-effective for manufacturers. BorgWarner has a range of technologies from EGR valves to complete EGR modules. The EGR technology enables the reduction of combustion temperatures and increases engine efficiency even at minimal coolant flow. BorgWarner’s solution minimises the use of enriched fuel/ air mixtures, while facilitating a leaner burn through improved combustion timing.
