The world's first purpose built autonomous race car, sets a new Guinness World Record
In the 2020 edition of the Guinness World Records book, Robocar has been officially crowned the fastest autonomous vehicle in the world. Robocar is the world’s first purpose built autonomous vehicle used for racing.
In March 2019, Robocar was officially adjudicated by the Guinness World Records team at the Elvington Airfield in York, UK. The autonomous race car performed two runs, the average of both these runs produced an official top speed of 282.42 km/h or 175.49 mph.
While there was no previous such record, Robocar did not need to surpass a benchmark. But Guinness World Records set a speed of 257 km/h as the official speed the autonomous vehicle needed to clear to hold the record.
