Volvo Launches Sales of Electric Trucks for Urban European Markets

Sales will commence in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, France and Netherlands; Serial production has been planned for March 2020

Volvo Trucks has announced the commencement of sales of its Volvo FL and Volvo FE electric truck range in select markets in Europe. In a bid to address the increasing demand for a more sustainable solution for transportation within city environments, the company has opened the sale of these EVs meant for commercial activity.

Electric trucks are a viable proposition for urban areas, they have zero exhaust emissions and reduced levels on noise, making them an ideal candidate for urban transport mobility. These solutions enable it to operate at early morning and late evening hours and improve transport congestion during peak hours. Further, these trucks can be used for indoor use and also in environment safe zones as they have zero tailpipe emissions.

The company is also working on maximising payload while also optimising the driving range. The company has been developing these products based on individual needs and also considers parameters such as driving cycles, load capacity and route analysis. This will also enable better utilisation of battery capacity in an efficient manner.

The Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FE Electric trucks were developed to for distribution and refuse handling as well as other urban transport applications. Sales will commence in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, France and Netherlands. Serial production has been planned for March 2020, the Volvo FL electric also come with a capacity for a GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of 16 tonnes; while the Volvo FE electric has a capacity of 27 tonnes.
