Pursuing its plans of enhancing innovative capabilities, Walmart has announced a new pilot project with Palo-Alto based Gatik to run autonomous vehicles for deliveries in the state of Arkansas, US. The company is looking to improve on its delivery standards and shape the future of retail.
Walmart has been exploring pilot projects with self-driving technology companies that will include customer delivery as well as transportation of goods between locations. With a new legislation passed in March, allowing autonomous vehicles to ply in the state of Arkansas, Walmart in its partnership with Gatik will operate autonomous vehicles between two of their stores on a two mile route in Bentonville.
The company is looking to learn more about logistics of adding autonomous vehicles into the online grocery ecosystem, operation process changes and more opportunities to incorporate this emerging technology.
