Greaves Cotton Ltd announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Altigreen Propulsion Labs. The partnership aims at providing a range of clean energy powertrain solutions for the three-wheeler and micro four-wheeler commercial vehicles. The company’s will kick-start this alliance with the launch of Altigreen’s HyPixi, low cost partial-electrification solution for retro-fitment on existing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The solution is expected to deliver significantly-improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, thereby leading to un-matched total cost of ownership to the last mile transportation segment.

The HyPixi retro fitment solution is said to provide up to 25 % improvement in fuel economy, reduction in harmful tailpipe emissions and reduces wear-and-tear so there is less engine maintenance. The company noted that this electric-assist system meets government notified standards, with thorough testing and certification being carried out under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). It is claimed to be ready for fitment in India. The ARAI-approved electric-assist HyPixi system is protected by US and global patents, giving Greaves an opportunity to expand the use of electric propulsion technology on existing and future vehicle population.

Nagesh Basavanhalli, MD and CEO, Greaves Cotton, said the company is excited to sign this strategic partnership with Altigreen Propulsions Labs. This partnership allows Greaves Cotton to address the core issue of reduction in carbon load in the atmosphere, along with providing a cost effective greener solution to customers, he added. Basavanhalli noted that the company is committed to providing fuel-agnostic solutions and this strategic partnership is a manifestation in the same direction.

The company’s advanced 48-volt electric-assist technology generates a positive triple bottom-line impact – on people, planet and profits – throughout the value chain, noted Dr Amitabh Saran, CEO, Altigreen Propulsion Labs. He said this partnership leverages Greaves’ unmatched aftermarket network enabling more people to benefit sooner from the use of Altigreen’s products and technology.
