The Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz Ltd, which designs and develops technology for autonomous and driver assistive systems, will be providing its Novus Aware technology to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) for its BharatBenz truck range. The new technology will be rolled out as standard equipment in the BharatBenz brand’s premium HDT variants, and will be available for other models as well. This is the first time ever an Indian company is providing its proprietary ADAS/AV technology to a German OEM, and this technology can be deployed globally as well.
Novus Aware, claimed to be the first-of-its-kind technology in the world, is a driver behaviour sensor that ensures safe driving. This product is based on an indigenously-developed patented technology, that uses artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies, the company said. It added that the technology builds an intelligent model of the driver behaviour by monitoring various features of the driver including eye, face, head and gaze to infer whether a driver is in safe driving condition or not. This includes driver drowsiness, inattention, and various kinds of distraction, including texting or other mobile phone usage. The technology is robust for various facial variations, head gears as well as eyewear.
Anuj Kapuria, Managing Director and CEO, The Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz Ltd, said 90 % of accidents happen due to human error and Novus Aware will help significantly reduce the number of accidents. This technology will be a key enabler for more road safety, he added.
Safety is a core attribute of BharatBenz, and this innovative feature can help prevent accidents related to driver drowsiness or inattentiveness, noted Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, DICV.
