Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) has announced the achievement of selling over 1 million units of its Activa scooter within the first five months of FY2015. HMSI reported sales of 1,001,350 units of Activa from April to August, 2015, which is a growth of 20 %, retaining its position of the largest selling two-wheeler in the country.
The Honda Activa alone contributes to 51 % of the scooter segment, with sales volumes having grown 20 times that of the two-wheeler industry, HMSI said. The company added that the two-wheeler industry has remained flat so far this year from April to August, 2015. HMSI has sold a total of 217,000 units of the Activa in August, 2015.
Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO, HMSI, said the company is happy to have started the festive season on a high noted with the Activa achieving a hat-trick. He added that it has retained the position as India’s top selling two-wheeler for three consecutive months. With improvement in rural infrastructure in the future, HMSI expects the scooter segment to go up further, Muramatsu noted.
Overtaking motorcycles to become the highest selling two-wheeler of India, Activa today represents the metamorphosis of the society, noted YS Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HMSI. The main areas of convenience, unisex appeal and product features have helped the Activa in getting more customers, Guleria added.
