Two-pedal intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) will allow drivers to shift gears manually without operating the clutch

Combining the driving engagement of manual gear shift and the convenience of not operating the clutch pedal, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has announced an innovative intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) on the Venue 1.0l turbocharged petrol engine. Reminiscent of the Saab Sensonic from yesteryears, drivers have the ability to slot gears manually without the need to operate the clutch which is done by a hydraulic actuator. This offers a more engaging driving experience without the inconvenience to your left foot. Transmission Control Unit receives a signal from TGS Lever Intention Sensor, indicating drivers desire to change gears. This intent is then sent to the hydraulic actuator forming hydraulic pressure which is then sent to Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) through Clutch Tube. CSC uses this pressure to control the clutch and pressure plate, thereby engaging and disengaging the clutch.

Hyundai’s iMT technology is essentially a two-pedal system that eliminates the need for drivers to constantly use the clutch pedal as in a conventional manual transmission. The introduction of iMT on the Venue Turbo further should be exciting as this little turbo petrol is a lightweight peppy car to drive. SS Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd stated “Hyundai has been driving the adoption of new and innovative technologies at scale. iMT is one such technology that accounts for the pleasure of driving and also the convenience needed to ease the hectic burden of daily commutes. This unparalleled drive experience on Hyundai Venue has been curated through a constant pursuit of innovation for customer delight”.
