AURA features modern design specifically crafted for aspirational Indian millennial; development concept based on five integral pillars; features new first-in-segment BS 6 engine options
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) unveiled its all-new AURA compact sedan, which is claimed to be the most power-packed and feature rich sedan in its segment. The AURA compact sedan has been developed keeping five key pillars in focus - Stunning and Modern Design; Premium and Spacious Interiors; Class-Leading Convenience and Technology; Advanced and Enthusiastic Powertrain Options; and Complete Peace of Mind Package.
The Hyundai AURA will have several firsts to its credit, the company noted. It will be offered with first-in-segment Kappa 1 I, BS 6 T-GDI petrol, 1.2 l MPI BS 6 petrol and first-in-segment 1.2 l BS 6 ECOTORQ diesel engine option. The engines are claimed to offer superior power, performance and fuel efficiency. The 1.2 l MPI, BS 6 petrol engine return a power output of 82 hp and peak torque of 114 Nm. The powertrains are all awaiting ARAI certification, HMIL said.
The Kappa 1 l, Turbo GDI engine delivers maximum power of 99 hp, with 172 Nm of torque, and will be available with a five-speed manual transmission alone. This engine has been developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D division, and is expected to be the base for a new era of next-generation engines that are compliant with BS 6 emission norms. The 1 l Kappa T-GDI engine has a compact lay out by integrating the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head, thereby improving fuel efficiency at higher RPM ranges, explained HMIL.
Meanwhile, the 1.2 l, BS 6, ECOTORQ diesel engine puts out 74 hp of power, and 190 Nm of peak torque, with transmission options of a five-speed manual or AMT. This diesel unit consists of a 2,000 bar Fuel Injection System that allows better combustion and fuel efficiency, noted the company. It said the crankshaft bearing, with optimised thickness and material reduce friction allows excellent driving even in city conditions and enhances engine life. The transmission has been put through rigorous durability tests to ensure high gear strength, and better clutch friction materials offer best performance at high speeds, off-road, hillsides and harsh climatic conditions.
The Hyundai AURA is said to offer versatile characteristics, exhibiting elegant styling and bold character form to deliver a fresh interpretation of Hyundai’s signature design language of ‘Sensuous Sportiness’. The front features Twin Boomerang daytime running lamps (DRL) integrated into the premium satin front grill with projector type head lamps and fog lamps.
The side profile of the sedan comes with coupe-like styling, combined with strong wheel-arches created by two unique character lines that house the R15 diamond cut type alloy wheels. Other features in the rear include the chrome strip trunk lid garnish with glossy black wraparound.
Hyundai said the AURA is built on a Strong Body Structure with 65 % integrated advanced high strength steel (AHSS+HSS) application that ensures light body weight with high strength. This rigid structure is equipped with Advanced Ring Structure Application, which allows increased static and dynamic stiffness for superior safety, low NVH and superior handling. In addition, the Advanced Safety System provides the best active and passive safety equipment for stress-free driving and better crash energy absorption.
