Isuzu Motors India has launched the new MU-X seven-seater SUV, with prices starting at Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 4x2 version, and Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom) for top-end 4x4 variant. Both variants are powered by Isuzu’s 3 l, turbo-diesel engine that produces 177 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed sequential shift automatic transmission.
The new Isuzu MU-X, which will be built at the company’s manufacturing plant at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, features shift-on-the-fly 4WD (on the 4x4 variant), high-tensile steel bodywork with crumple zones and anti-intrusion bars, and a host of safety electronics, including anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, emergency brake assist, traction control and stability control. The Isuzu MU-X’s comprehensive list of features also includes a roof-mounted 10-inch DVD entertainment monitor and 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat.
The MU-X’s fully folding second row seat has a one-touch fold-and-tumble feature, with maximum ingress space for the third row of seats. The company claims that the third row of seats features ample leg room and is suitable for adults, making this a proper 7-seater. “India is a key market for Isuzu and is also a future hub of our global manufacturing operations. We will continue to invest in our Indian operations and also bring in the best technology and engineering that Isuzu has to offer globally,” said Hiroshi Nakagawa, Director of the Board and Managing Executive Officer, Isuzu Motors Ltd.
“The MU-X is perfect for the modern Indian SUV buyer and it has been designed to offer the perfect combination of style, power and road presence, while also providing excellent space and comfort. We are confident the mu-X will set a new benchmark for full size premium SUVs in India,” added Hitoshi Kono, Deputy Managing Director, Isuzu Motors India.
