JK Tyre and Industries Ltd has received the ‘2015 Silver Level Certification in Supplier Quality Excellence Process’ from Caterpillar Inc for its Mysore off-the-road (OTR) manufacturing facility. This certification was awarded to JK Tyre in recognition of its high levels of quality, process control, delivery and performance that helps enhance productivity, the company noted. The Mysore facility is also claimed to have received the Golden Peacock Environment Award in 2011.
This certification demonstrates JK Tyre’s commitment to collaborate with Caterpillar in order to implement a ‘zero-defects’ culture across its supply base. Caterpillar’s Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP) is aimed at recognising suppliers who demonstrate excellence, and drive a zero-defects culture within their organisations. SQEP certification requires suppliers to adhere to supplier performance standards, parameters of which include product quality and shipping performance that is measured over a 12-month period.
Devesh Dabas, SBU Head, OTR Business, JK Tyre and Industries, said receiving the Silver Level Certification reinforces the company’s commitment to provide world-class products and after sales services to consumers. He added that the company is honoured to be awarded the certificate of excellence, and truly values its business relationship with a global company like Caterpillar.
JK Tyre’s Mysore plant was commissioned in 2009, and is said to be among the most technologically-advanced tyre manufacturing facilities in the country. It underwent capacity expansion in 2012, and currently manufactures 1.06 mn tyres annually. It also manufactures India’s largest tyre, VEM 045, which is a 12-ft high, 3.7-tonne tyre, especially built for the biggest rigid dump-truck in the country.
