Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd today inaugurated its expanded production facility into what it calls an Electric Technology Manufacturing Hub. This facility in Bangalore will manufacture electric vehicle technologies, developed under +ME brand, the company said. Mahindra Electric also launched its first electric three-wheeler range, Treo Yaari and Treo during the event. The Treo Yaari has been priced at Rs 1.36 lakh, while the Treo is priced at Rs 2.22 lakh, both prices ex-showroom Bangalore. The Treo range is the company’s first lithium-ion powered three-wheeler electric vehicle.
This new hub is claimed to align with Mahindra’s belief in an all-electric future and is based on its Future of Mobility vision of producing Clean, Connected and Convenient vehicles. The company said the new facility is set to revolutionise the way electric vehicle technology would be used in the country. This first-of-its-kind electric vehicle technology manufacturing facility has been set up with a total investment of Rs 100 crore, and will manufacture battery packs, power electronics and motor assembly. The plant uses global standards of manufacturing processes and is set to increase the manufacturing of Mahindra Electric to 25,000 units per annum.
The Treo range of electric three-wheelers uses Mahindra Electric’s locally-developed powertrain and maintenance-free lithium ion battery. The variants include Treo electric auto and Treo Yaari electric rickshaw, both available with industry-first hard top weather proof variants. The electric three-wheelers feature light weighting technologies and composite body panels, which help the Treo offer a certified range of 170 km for the electric auto. Other features include best-in-class passenger comfort, spacious interiors, and clutch-less drive for ease, along with a noiseless and vibration-free drive that reduces overall fatigue of the journey. The Treo range is built on an indigenously-developed common platform with a view to serve market demands as they scale up. During the first phase of its launch, the Treo vehicles will be available at select dealerships across Bangalore and Hyderabad and later in other cities in a phased manner.
