First-generation Ertiga sold over 400,000 units in seven years; Ertiga helps enhance Maruti Suzuki share in MPV segment from 25.3 % to 50.3 %
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) today announced that the Ertiga has clocked cumulative sales of 500,000 units in a period of eight years since launch, emerging as the country’s best-selling urban MPV. The Ertiga brand has found widespread acceptance among its customers by offering stylish exteriors, coupled with spacious interiors, the company noted.
The first-generation Ertiga saw tremendous success, with sales numbers reaching 418,128 units in a seven-year period. This was followed by the launch of the next-generation Ertiga in 2018, featuring a new design, premium interiors and powerful new engine options. The new Ertiga is high on safety with Suzuki’s fifth-generation HEARTECT platform, and is equipped with an array of safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors as standard fitment.
Furthermore, Ertiga is the only MPV that is available in three fuel options – petrol, diesel and segment-exclusive factory-fitted CNG. Maruti Suzuki noted that almost 28 % Ertiga customers are repeat buyers, which is a testament towards brand loyalty and Ertiga staying relevant to changing customer aspirations.
Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said Ertiga created a niche for itself as a three-row comfortable MPV to become a runaway success. This success helped MSIL to strengthen market presence in the MPV segment, he added. Srivastava noted that Ertiga is a market leader with 36 % share amongst MPVs, and its leadership continues with support from customers.
