Maruti Suzuki India is going strong in the domestic market as well as in the export market, selling a total of 172,512 units in May 2018, reflecting an increase of 26%. MSIL sold 163,200 units in the domestic market and 9,312 units of exports. The company’s mini segment comprising models such as Maruti Suzuki Alto and WagonR witnessed a marginal decline – it sold about 37,864 units in May 2018 as compared to 39,089 units in the year-ago period.
Maruti’s compact segment comprising models such as Swift, Celerio, Baleno and Dzire witnessed 50.8% increase in sales – it sold a total of 77,263 units in this space as compared to 51,234 units in the year-ago period. On the sedan front, Maruti sold over 4,024 units of Ciaz as compared to 4,724 units in the year-ago period, indicating a decline of 14.8%.
Vitara Brezza c dominated the sales of Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle segment (comprising Gypsy, Ertiga and S-Cross as well) – it rose by 14.4%. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 25,629 units in May. The company sold a total of 1,703 units in light commercial vehicle space as compared to 428 units in May 2017, reflecting an increase of 297.9%.
