The mid-size van will be a practical offering for both utilitarian and leisure duties for private customers
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a teaser image of a new compact city van, the T-Class, which will provide a practical and leisure vehicle for private users. The letter T in the name stands for efficient room concepts and is a suitable model designation for compact family vans. It boasts of a large amount of space inside and is suitable for either passenger transport on private or sharing basis. The wide-opening sliding doors on both the left and right-hand sides of the vehicle as an example allow easy and comfortable access to the interior. Mercedes-Banz has also mentioned that there will be an all-electric version alongside conventional drive systems. Also, the T-Class will be established in cooperation with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
Mercedes-Benz Vans has been represented by the commercially positioned Citan since 2012 in the small van segment. Based on this small van platform, two vehicles will be created: while the Mercedes-Benz Citan is a no-compromise vehicle tailored to the requirements of commercial customers, the Mercedes-Benz T-Class is primarily focused towards private customers. "With the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class, we will offer a vehicle which makes it possible for families and those with active pastimes to step into the Mercedes-Benz world. These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles – and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfills" stated Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head, Mercedes-Benz Vans. While there is no mention of it being sold in India, the practicality and viability of the T-Class make it ideal for large Indian households, who may shuffle between private and transportation duties. No such speculations yet, but we suggest Mercedes-Benz India consider it for its Indian line-up.
