Ola has announced its “Mission: Electric” programme to deploy 10,000 e-rickshaws and electric auto-rickshaws over the next 12 months. The company said it will develop the “Mission: Electric” platform aimed at deploying one million electric vehicles on the Indian roads by 2021. Ola added that it will work closely with driver-partners, cities, vehicle manufacturers, and battery companies to make sustainable technologies cost-effective and viable in daily mobility.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder and CEO, Ola, said three-wheelers are a vital source of livelihood for millions of people every day and also represents an immediate opportunity to improve outcomes for all stakeholders, while reducing pollution across towns and cities. He added that the company has gained new learnings from its Nagpur pilot project carried out last year, and is significantly expanding its commitment to electrify mobility in India.
Ola is engaged in discussions with several state governments to create an appropriate policy environment to deploy electric three-wheelers. The company is also talking to OEM partners and EV innovators globally to bring vehicles on the Indian roads in a phased manner.
