Renault has announced it is introducing its New Koleos D-segment SUV in European markets this month, which the company unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in 2016. The New Koleos is already available for sale in Australia, Gulf States and certain South American and Asian countries, the company noted. Renault is offering the New Koleos in its top-end Initiale Paris signature trim as well.
The new Renault Koleos will be available with two diesel engines for European markets, both of which comply with Euro 6b legislation, and are equipped with Stop/Start, NOx trap and a particulate filter. The first is a four-cylinder, 1.6l dCi turbo-charge unit delivering 130 hp of power at 4,000 rpm, with peak torque of 320 Nm from 1,750 to 2,250 rpm. This unit is available only in two-wheel drive, but can be mated to either the XTronic automatic transmission or six-speed manual gearbox.
The second is a four-cylinder, 2 l dCi engine with variable-geometry turbocharger, putting out maximum power of 175 hp at 3,750 rpm, and 380 Nm of torque at 2,000-3,000 rpm. This engine is available with both two and four-wheel drive variants, while mated to the X-Tronic automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the six-speed manual transmission for the larger engine is available only with the four-wheel drive version.
The New Koleos is built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-C/D architecture that is shared by a number of other models. The company said this approach allows the use of parts and assemblies not visible to the customer for different vehicles, while the design and identity of each brand remain distinct. The X-Tronic transmission in the New Koleos, unlike former CVT transmissions, performs more like a multi-ratio automatic whenever the driver needs to accelerate briskly, Renault noted. It added that the driver also has the option to select a seven-speed sequential mode to benefit from engine braking.
The ALL MODE 4x4-i transmission available in the New KOLEOS is an all-wheel drive system that permanently monitors grip levels to guarantee optimal traction in all conditions. Drivers are allowed to select between three modes - 2WD, 4WD AUTO and 4WD LOCK. Some of the safety standards in the New Koleos include six airbags, traction control, ESC, electronic brake force distribution, hill-start assist, Active Emergency Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition. Other assistance features come in the form of rear view camera; Automatic High/Low Beam head lights; front, rear and side parking sensors and hands-free parking assist system. The New Koleos also features full LED lighting, front and rear.
