SAE India has scheduled the fifth edition of SUPRA, formula student competition from 4-9 July, 2016, at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. The event is known as the biggest designing platform for students to demonstrate their aptitude in automobile engineering. In India, SUPRA was started in 2011 and coordinates with the Government’s Automotive Mission Plan 2016, with the current edition being hosted with support from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL).
More than 100 professionals from 25 automotive companies come forward to volunteer in the event, thereby offering a strong support from the industry. To encourage the participation of women, this edition will witness two special award categories, namely the best woman participant and the team with the maximum number of women. Besides an all women team, there will be a total of 200 women participating in the competition, SAE India noted.
Prashant K Banerjee, Convener, SUPRA SAEINDIA 2016 and Deputy Executive Director (Technical) Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, said the competition has set high standards in student formula competitions, with support from industry and academia. He added that it contributes to the Government’s Skill India initiative, providing a good platform for skill development and enhancement. “This year, students will be tested on a range of technical attributes in a mix of static and dynamic events by an experienced panel of judges, including experts from Germany and Russia,” Banerjee noted.
