SmartShift, Mahindra Group’s digital start-up for intra-city logistics, launched its operations in Bangalore today, its third city after Mumbai and Hyderabad. The SmartShift app is aimed at enabling efficiencies in the last mile logistics space, acting as a platform for cargo owners and transporters to work with each other.
Cargo owners can access the SmartShift service through the mobile app, which is available on Google Play Store for Android devices, website or dedicated call centre. The company said SmartShift brings a unique feature of ‘Reverse Bidding’ to this space, which sets it apart from similar service providers. This implies that the app successfully emulates the bargaining process between cargo owners and transporters, allowing them to close the deal at a mutually acceptable price.
Since launch in October, 2015, in Mumbai, SmartShift has garnered over 12,000 stakeholders and clocks approximately 1,200 transactions every day, the company noted. It said that the aim is to add value to 1 million stakeholders in three years.
Kausalya Nandakumar, CEO, SmartShift, said the company is happy to start operations in Bangalore and further expand its geographical footprint. “As one of the top five markets for commercial vehicles, with a high rate of smartphone adoption in both cargo owner and transporter communities, Bangalore holds immense potential for a digital platform like ours,” she said.
