The Nexon EV SUV will offer a range of more than 300 kms on a single charge

Tata Motors has ramped up its presence in the country’s nascent electrical vehicle (EV) space, unveiling the Nexon EV SUV. The company said its latest EV offering will be powered by the cutting-edge Ziptron technology and is expected to be priced between Rs 15-17 Lakhs. The launch of the Nexon EV SUV is slated to happen in January 2020.

Tata Motors claimed that the Nexon EV SUV will offer a driving range of more than 300 on a single charge as well as ensures an efficient high voltage system, fast charging capability, extended battery life and class-leading safety features.

The unveiling of the Nexon EV SUV will surely hot up India’s electric SUV space – it may be noted that Hyundai Motor India had launched its electric SUV – Hyundai Kona earlier this year and only recently, MG Motors India unveiled the ZS EV that is expected to be launched in early 2020.

The Nexon EV SUV will be Tata Motors’ second EV product in the market – it had earlier rolled out the Tigor EV. The Tigor EV was initially brought out in the market to cater to only the government and commercial vehicle space that offered a driving range of 142 km on a single charge. The extended range of the Tigor EV was launched in Octoer this year and was made available for personal mobility as well as commercial mobility users, and offers a driving range of 213 km on a single charge.

The Nexon EV SUV will be available in three variants – XZ+ LUX, XZ+ (both in 2 tone) and XM (in single tone) and will offer three colour options – Signature Teal Blue colour, Moonlit Silver and Glacier White, the company noted. Tata Motors offered a warranty of 8 years or 1,60,000 kms (whichever is earlier) on battery & motor of the Nexon EV.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, said the high performance, connected Nexon EV SUV is uniquely suited to address the aspirations of Indian customers and bust all myths of EV adoption.

Shailesh Chandra, President – Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors, said the unveiling of the Nexon EV SUV is not just a milestone for the company’s EV business but also for the country’s EV ecosystem.

The Nexon EV SUV will compete with the likes of MG ZS and Hyundai Kona.
