The Board of Management of ZF has appointed Dr Franz Kleiner as Head of the company’s Active and Passive Safety Technology division, effective 1 September, 2015. Dr Kleiner was appointed as member of the ZF Board of Management for the region of North America at the beginning of 2015. The ZF Active and Passive Safety Technology division continues the entire business activities of TRW Automotive, which was acquired in May, 2015. Dr Kleiner will take over his role from John C Plant, who was the long-standing CEO of TRW, who will remain with ZF as an advisor until the end of 2015.
Dr Kleiner holds a PhD from the University of Stuttgart, and has held various management functions in planning and controlling at the former Daimler Benz AG. He joined the German subsidiary of the Canadian telecommunications supplier Nortel Networks in 1997, where he was appointed CFO in 2002. He joined the ZF Group in 2006, where he worked for four years as General Manager, Finance, at the former ZF Lemforder Corporation in Northville, Michigan, US. In 2011, Dr Kleiner took over responsibility for Finance and HR in Passau, and in the spring of 2013, he was appointed Head of ZF's Industrial Technology division.
Dr Stefan Sommer, CEO, ZF, said Dr Kleiner fulfils all prerequisites for the challenging task of managing the largest of ZF's divisions. He added that Dr Kleiner’s integration experience is well acquainted with ZF as well as with the US market. Dr Sommer also said the company is pleased Plant will remain with ZF as an advisor until the end of 2015, adding that his knowledge of both market and customers is valuable.
